Climate change and the energy crisis demand an energy transition.
Cities and towns like the City and Town of Ithaca have established ambitious goals for meeting the crisis. But this requires a method.
Globally, the energy transition is challenging to achieve because (1) the majority of people must participate in order to bring about real change, and (2) the change must include not only one kind of energy use but all energy uses: power, heat, transportation and waste. These four major sources of carbon make up about 75% of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions.
That's a lot to change: a pathway to real climate impact.
Own Your Power solves the many problems of energy transition through a basic strategy of reducing the community's grid and pipeline use on site:

Combine your power, heat and vehicle into a single onsite system to need less grid and pipeline

Help energy users invest monthly power, heat and vehicle energy bills payments in onsite systems you own; and
-
Help neighbors share onsite power, heat and vehicle systems to make them more cost-effective.
"Own Your Power" is about taking local community responsibility over supplies specifically in order to reduce your use of them. Own Your Power is being managed by the same company - Local Power LLC - that manages energy supply through Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), a separate but complementary municipal electricity and natural gas program regulated by the New York Public Service Commission. This is a new kind of "energy service" to make it possible for the whole community to significantly transition off of dependency on heating fuels, vehicle fuels and grid power through use and ownership of onsite energy systems.
In short, Own Your Power will provide Ithaca energy users with a trustworthy platform to make new decisions about all the kinds of energy you use and pay for throughout your life: energy for power, heat and vehicle.
"Degrowth" in global pipeline and grid use is "Regrowth" for the local economy.

A new system,
for climate action
Designed to be replicable in half of the U.S. energy market, Local Power's new business model for community energy provides a platform for municipalities to meet the United Nation's 2030 deadline for energy transformation "to avert irreversible damage to the earth's ecology."
Reflecting lessons learned from having coauthored the Municipal Aggregation model in Massachusetts and authored and developed the Community Choice Aggregation (CCA 2.0) and Solar Bond models in California, Local Power LLC has taken yet another giant leap to fully realize a new kind of energy system: an onsite, user-owned interoperable renewable power, heat/hot water and electric vehicle system.
